Newton and Rodgers Revenge Tour

Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton have been on an absolute rampage this season, each trying to prove to the masses why they were both former MVP quarterbacks. Now, many of you reading this may be wondering what Rodgers has to prove after coming off a 13–3 campaign with over 4,000 passing yards and 26 TDs — he proved last year that he still a top 3 QB in the league.

Apparently, Rodgers still needs to prove it to his own front office, as they selected QB Jordan Love with their 1st round pick in the 2020 draft. Personally, if I had an all-pro quarterback that just signed a new massive extension, I might try to build an offense around him by drafting a wide receiver or a tight-end — but I am not a GM so what do I know?

The Packers' front office might be preparing for the future but I think it is far too soon to use that high of a draft pick on a player that is going to be riding the bench until Rodgers decides he doesn’t want to play in Green Bay anymore. Naturally, after GB’s brass pulled this stunt in the draft, Rodgers caught fire early on this season with 9 TDS and almost 900 yards passing–all while star receiver Davante Adams has been mostly sidelined with an injury.

I will never understand why GMs make some of the decisions they do, and the Rodgers/Love scenario is just another one to add to the list. All I know is that Rodgers is cooking, and the NFL better watch its back: Green Bay looks like a real Superbowl contender this year.

Cam Newton, on the other hand, is back and in a big way. He looks like the 2015 MVP Cam and there’s pretty much no one who can stop him physically (except for the Seahawks defense on the 1.) Cam has the Patriots back in the conversation of playoff contenders and with a great defense, things are looking really promising for Bill after losing the GOAT in the offseason.

Cam’s revenge tour is league-wide as he signed in New England after almost every other free-agent quarterback was signed and received less guaranteed money than backups Andy Dalton and Marcus Mariotta. No shade at those guys, they’re both solid QBs, but perhaps the dumbest move of the offseason was the Carolina Panthers moving on from Cam and paying Teddy Bridgewater $63 million dollars over 3 years. That’s like trading in a Lamborgini for a Toyota Corolla and then paying more for the Corolla and selling the Lambo for a bag of potatoes.

Now, check-down Teddy is not a bad starting quarterback but he isn’t really that good either; he will most likely never be a consistent top 10 QB in the league, unlike Cam who is most certainly playing like a 10 ten QB right now.

He might only have 2 passing TDs but he has a completion percentage over 68% through the first three games and has 4 rushing TDs as well. Superman is taking names and next year will be cashing another check from the Patriots if he maintains this form.

As I am writing this article the news just broke about Cam testing positive for COVID-19, willing him a speedy recovery and wishing him the best.
